What is the Tissot PR516?

The Tissot PR516 is a line of stainless steel sports watches, all rated to 100 m, that mixes chronographs with time-and-date models. Case sizes run from 38 mm to 41 mm, and dials are black, blue or white. The 40 mm and 41 mm chronographs add a fixed bezel with a tachymeter scale, while the 38 mm Powermatic 80 is a simpler automatic with a date window and a 60-minute bezel.

What does PR mean, and is the Tissot PR516 a new design?

PR stands for Particulièrement Robuste, French for particularly robust, a name Tissot first gave a 1956 collection. The PR516 took its best-known shape in 1965 under designer Lucien Gurtner, so today's Tissot PR516 is a revival rather than a new design. The hand-wound PR516 Chronograph Mechanical arrived in early 2024, and the 38 mm Powermatic 80 followed later that year. Roger Moore, as James Bond, wore a vintage PR516 in Live and Let Die (1973).

Which PR516 version should I choose: quartz, Powermatic 80 or Valjoux?

Choose by movement and size. The 40 mm quartz chronographs are the entry point, from $695 to $825. The 38 mm Powermatic 80, from $895 on leather to $1,095, is a time-and-date automatic with an 80-hour power reserve. The 41 mm Valjoux chronographs are the mechanical chronographs: the automatic is $2,520 and the hand-wound is $2,595, each with a 68-hour power reserve.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Tissot PR516 in Canada?

At La Maison Monaco, a Tissot PR516 costs from $695 to $2,595 CAD. The 40 mm quartz chronographs run from $695 to $825, and the 38 mm Powermatic 80 automatics from $895 to $1,095. The 41 mm Valjoux automatic chronograph is $2,520, and the hand-wound Valjoux mechanical chronograph is $2,595. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

Which Tissot PR516 size and movement should I choose?

Choose the Tissot PR516 by wrist size and movement. The 38 mm Powermatic 80 is the compact time-and-date automatic, while the 40 mm quartz and 41 mm Valjoux models are chronographs in larger cases. Pick quartz for the lowest price, Powermatic 80 for an automatic with an 80-hour reserve, and Valjoux for a mechanical chronograph.

Tissot PR516 or Tissot PRX: which should I buy?

Choose the Tissot PRX if you want an integrated steel bracelet, and the Tissot PR516 if you prefer a racing-inspired sports watch, with chronograph options that carry a tachymeter scale. The Tissot PR516 runs from $695 to $2,595 CAD at La Maison Monaco, in quartz, Powermatic 80 automatic and mechanical Valjoux chronograph versions.

Is the Tissot PR516 water resistant, and can I swim with it?

Yes, every Tissot PR516 in our catalogue is rated to 100 m, which suits swimming and daily wear. It is not a dive watch: the bezel is fixed and the rating is not meant for diving. Every Tissot PR516 we checked has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. On the Valjoux chronographs, the tachymeter bezel ring is mineral glass, so protect it from hard knocks.

Is La Maison Monaco an authorized Tissot dealer in Canada?

Yes. La Maison Monaco is an authorized Tissot dealer in Canada, so every Tissot PR516 is new, genuine and covered by Tissot's two-year manufacturer warranty. Flexiti financing is available on approved credit, and you can buy online or in one of our 15 boutiques. Our staff can answer questions about the warranty on a specific reference.

Can I see a Tissot PR516 in a boutique, or order one?

Yes. Most Tissot PR516 models are in stock in our boutiques, including several 40 mm quartz chronographs and 38 mm Powermatic 80 automatics, and each product page shows which. The Valjoux chronographs and a few other references are available to order: we order them in from Tissot, and they are fully purchasable. Our staff can help you compare sizes on the wrist.
