What makes a dive watch?

The rotating bezel turns one way only, so a knock can only shorten the dive time it shows, never lengthen it. Lume on the hands, markers and bezel pip keeps the watch readable at depth, and a screw-down crown and case back keep water out. ISO 6425 is the international standard for diver's watches: it sets a minimum water resistance of 100 m and tests the bezel, legibility in the dark and more. Many brands state it on the dial or in the specifications on each product page.

How much water resistance do you need?

A 100 m rating covers swimming and snorkelling. For scuba diving, look for 200 m or more, and for deeper dives 300 m and above. These are laboratory pressure ratings, not depths to dive to. Nearly all of our dive watches are rated at least 100 m, about 520 reach 200 m or more, and about 450 reach 300 m or more.

Which dive watch should I choose?

Under $2,000, Tissot's Seastar, Hamilton's Khaki Navy and MIDO's Ocean Star are the way in, with Longines HydroConquest models from about $1,550. From about $2,000 to $6,000, Longines' HydroConquest and Legend Diver, Oris's Aquis and Divers Sixty-Five and TAG Heuer's Aquaracer are the core of the range. OMEGA's Seamaster Diver 300M, worn by James Bond, starts around $8,200 and its Planet Ocean 600M around $9,600, while Breitling's Superocean starts around $6,700.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a dive watch cost in Canada?

Our dive watches run from $575 to $225,600 CAD, and half cost less than about $4,100. About 95 are under $2,000 and about 330 are under $5,000. Tissot, Hamilton, MIDO and Longines are the entry points, Oris and TAG Heuer sit in the middle, and OMEGA starts around $8,200. Every price is in Canadian dollars.

What water resistance do I need for scuba diving?

For recreational scuba, choose 200 m or more; 100 m is enough for swimming and snorkelling. The rating is a pressure test, not a safe depth, so keep the crown screwed down and have the gaskets checked at each service. About 520 of our dive watches are rated 200 m or more, and each product page lists the figure.

Can I wear a dive watch every day?

Yes. Steel dive watches on a bracelet, such as the Seamaster, HydroConquest or Aquis, are among the most worn everyday watches, and they suit the office, travel and the pool alike. Four in five of ours have cases of 40 mm or larger, and many come on rubber or leather straps as well as bracelets.

Is a dive watch automatic or quartz?

Most are automatic: about 505 of our 580 dive watches, with about 70 quartz. An automatic winds itself as you wear it and suits daily wear, while a quartz runs on a battery, stays accurate and costs less. Each product page lists the movement.

Can I see a dive watch in person before buying?

Availability varies by model: some watches are on display in our boutiques in Quebec and Ontario, and the rest are ordered in from the brand. Each product page shows whether a piece is in stock or available to order, and you can book an appointment to see one. As an authorized dealer, we sell every watch with its manufacturer warranty.

Can I finance a dive watch?

Yes. Flexiti splits a purchase of $500 or more into 12 equal monthly payments, on approved credit, in a boutique or online. Discounted items are not eligible. Each product page shows the monthly amount for that watch, and the financing page explains the terms before you apply.
