Pilot watches come from the cockpit: large, high-contrast dials you can read at a glance, big crowns you can turn with gloves on, and often a chronograph or a second time zone. We carry about 230 of them, from IWC's Pilot's Watches and Breitling's Navitimer to Hamilton's Khaki Aviation, Longines' Spirit, Oris's ProPilot and Big Crown and Zenith's Pilot, from about $1,200 to about $290,000 CAD.
Legibility first: a black dial, white numerals and hands, and a triangle at 12 o'clock to orient the watch in the dark. Many follow the 1940s observation watches, with large cases and onion or diamond crowns. Breitling's Navitimer adds a slide-rule bezel for flight calculations, and IWC builds many of its Pilot's Watches with a soft-iron inner case that shields the movement from magnetic fields.
Which pilot watch should I choose?
Hamilton's Khaki Aviation, from about $1,200, and Longines' Spirit, mostly under $5,000, are the way in, with chronographs and GMTs among them. Oris's ProPilot and Big Crown start at about $2,900. IWC's Pilot's Watches, from the Mark XX to the Big Pilot and TOP GUN, and Breitling's Navitimer and Avenger are the classics above that.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a pilot watch cost in Canada?+
Our pilot watches start at about $1,200 CAD; about a third are under $5,000, and IWC and Breitling pieces run higher. Every price is in Canadian dollars.
Can I wear a pilot watch every day?+
Yes. Their legible dials and robust cases make them excellent everyday watches, and most are water resistant to at least 60 to 100 metres; each product page lists the rating.
Are pilot watches large?+
Many are 40 to 46 mm, true to the originals, but IWC, Hamilton and Longines also make them from 36 to 40 mm. Use the case size filter to narrow them down.
Can I see these watches in person?+
Many are on display in our boutiques in Quebec and Ontario, and others are ordered in from the brand. Each product page says whether a piece is in stock or available to order.
