Chronograph Watches

Authorized Watch Retailer in Canada

Overview

A chronograph is a watch with a built-in stopwatch: one pusher starts and stops it, the other resets it, and sub-dials count the minutes and hours. We carry about 620 of them, from OMEGA's Speedmaster Moonwatch, TAG Heuer's Carrera and Monaco, Breitling's Navitimer and Chronomat, IWC's Pilot's and Portugieser chronographs and Zenith's Chronomaster to Tissot, Hamilton and Hublot, from about $495 to over $150,000 CAD.

Chronograph or chronometer?

A chronograph measures elapsed time. A chronometer is a watch whose movement has been certified for accuracy, for example by the Swiss COSC or, for OMEGA's Master Chronometers, by METAS. A watch can be both. A tachymeter scale on the bezel turns the chronograph into a speed gauge, and a flyback chronograph restarts with a single press, which pilots once used to time legs of a flight.

Which chronograph should I choose?

Under $2,000, Tissot (PRX, Supersport, PR 100) and Hamilton's Khaki Aviation and Jazzmaster offer quartz and automatic chronographs. TAG Heuer's Carrera and Monaco are the motor-racing classics, and OMEGA's Speedmaster Moonwatch is the chronograph worn on the Moon. Breitling's Navitimer adds a slide rule for pilots, IWC's Pilot's and Portugieser chronographs are understated classics, and Zenith's Chronomaster carries the high-frequency El Primero movement.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a chronograph watch cost in Canada?

Our chronographs start at about $495 CAD with quartz models; about a quarter are under $5,000, and automatic chronographs from OMEGA, Breitling, IWC and Zenith run higher. Every price is in Canadian dollars.

Is it bad to leave the chronograph running?

Most modern chronographs can run for long stretches, but it draws more on the power reserve, or on the battery of a quartz chronograph. Stop and reset it when you no longer need it.

Can I use the pushers under water?

Only if the brand says so, as some dive chronographs allow. Otherwise, avoid pressing the pushers in the water, even on a water-resistant watch.

Can I see these watches in person?

Many are on display in our boutiques in Quebec and Ontario, and others are ordered in from the brand. Each product page says whether a piece is in stock or available to order.
