What is the Mido Commander?

The Mido Commander is the Swiss brand's core automatic collection, and its original model, the Commander 1959, has been made without interruption since 1959. Every Commander we list is automatic with a stainless steel case, mostly on a metal bracelet, with some on leather and one on a synthetic strap. The 1959 has an integrated bracelet and a one-piece monocoque case, the Gradient has a smoky, transparent acrylic dial, and the Big Date places its date window at 6 o'clock.

Which Mido Commander size and version should I choose?

Choose by size first. The most common Mido Commander case size is 40 to 41 mm, followed by 42 to 43 mm, and just under a quarter of our models are 34 to 37 mm, plus one 23.5 mm ladies' 1959. By line, the Commander 1959 runs from $1,070 to $1,380, the Gradient from $1,320 to $1,660, the Big Date from $1,350 to $1,710, the Chronometer from $1,900 to $2,100, and the Commander Icône is $2,150. The Datoday is 40 mm and the Shade 37 mm. Black and silver dials are the most common, then blue, grey and green.

What movement does the Mido Commander use?

Every Mido Commander we list is automatic. The Gradient, Big Date and Datoday use Mido's Caliber 80, with up to 80 hours of power reserve, so the watch keeps running over a weekend off the wrist. The Commander Chronometer and Commander Icône have chronometer-certified automatic movements; the Icône uses the COSC-certified Caliber 80 Chronometer Silicon, with a silicon balance spring. The Commander 1959 and Shade use an automatic movement listed on each product page. Every Commander is water-resistant to 50 m (5 bar), a city watch rather than a diver.
