The IWC Ingenieur is IWC's engineer's watch. The line began in the 1950s as an antimagnetic watch with a soft-iron inner case, and the current Ingenieur Automatic takes its design from the integrated-bracelet Ingenieur SL that Gérald Genta drew in the 1970s: a round bezel with five functional screws, a textured grid dial and a steel bracelet that flows from the case. It comes in 35, 40 and 42 mm, plus a Perpetual Calendar 41. Prices run from about $15,400 to $78,700 CAD, and La Maison Monaco is an authorized IWC dealer in Canada.
The Ingenieur Automatic 40 is the reference size and the closest to the original Genta design. The Automatic 35 is the smaller option for slimmer wrists, and the Automatic 42 wears bolder. Steel is the core of the range, with titanium, ceramic and gold versions above it, and the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 adds IWC's perpetual calendar to the same integrated design. Black, blue, silver and grey dials are the most common.
What makes the Ingenieur different?
The Ingenieur keeps the soft-iron inner case that protects the movement from magnetic fields, a feature of the line since it began. Its integrated bracelet and screwed bezel make it a sports watch that also works with a suit, and IWC's in-house automatic calibres give the current models a long power reserve. Every Ingenieur we carry is automatic.
Frequently asked questions
How much is an IWC Ingenieur in Canada?+
The Ingenieur Automatic starts at about $15,400 CAD in steel, and precious-metal and Perpetual Calendar references reach about $78,700 CAD. Every price is in Canadian dollars, with the full IWC manufacturer warranty.
Ingenieur 35, 40 or 42?+
The 40 mm is the reference size and suits most wrists. The 35 mm suits a slimmer wrist or a smaller look, and the 42 mm a larger wrist. Because the bracelet is integrated, the watch wears close to its diameter, so trying it on in a boutique helps.
Who designed the IWC Ingenieur?+
The integrated-bracelet design comes from the Ingenieur SL that Gérald Genta drew for IWC in the 1970s. The current Ingenieur Automatic reinterprets that design.
Where can I see the IWC Ingenieur in Canada?+
La Maison Monaco is an authorized IWC dealer with an IWC boutique at Royalmount in Montreal. Book an appointment and we will prepare the references you want to compare.
