What size watch should a man wear?

Most of our men's watches are 38 to 43 mm. As a rule, 38 to 40 mm suits a smaller or average wrist and most dress watches, 40 to 42 mm is the everyday middle, and 42 mm and up suits a larger wrist or a diver or chronograph meant to be seen. Lug-to-lug length matters as much as diameter: a 42 mm watch with short lugs can sit smaller than a 40 mm watch with long ones. Use the case size filter, and try two sizes in a boutique if you hesitate.

Which brand fits which budget?

Almost a quarter of the men's range is under $2,000, about 30% sits between $2,000 and $5,000, another 30% between $5,000 and $15,000, and about a fifth is above $15,000. Tissot, Hamilton and Mido lead under $2,000 with the PRX, Khaki Field and Ocean Star. Longines, Oris and Rado cover dive, chronograph and dress watches, mostly from $2,000 to $5,000. TAG Heuer and Breitling have middle prices of about $5,400 and $8,900, Omega's is about $13,900 and IWC's about $17,300, and Hublot and Zenith are mostly above $15,000.

Which style should I look at first?

We list hundreds of men's dive watches and chronographs, and well over 100 each of dress and pilot watches. A diver suits daily wear because its steel case and bracelet handle water and knocks. A chronograph adds a timing function, and the Omega Speedmaster and the TAG Heuer Carrera are the classic references. A pilot watch has a large, legible dial, as on the IWC Pilot's Watches. A dress watch is thinner and quieter.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a men's luxury watch cost in Canada?

Our men's watches cost from $365 to $313,000 CAD, and the middle price is about $4,550. Roughly a quarter are under $2,000. Breitling mostly sits between $5,000 and $15,000, Omega's middle price is about $13,900, and IWC, Hublot and Zenith go higher, as do gold and complicated pieces. Every price is in Canadian dollars with no currency conversion.

Should I choose an automatic or a quartz men's watch?

Choose an automatic if you want a mechanical movement that winds from wrist motion; about 80% of our men's watches are automatic. Choose quartz for a thinner, lighter, usually more accurate watch that needs only a battery change every few years. Quartz suits a watch worn now and then. The movement filter shows either type.

What size men's watch should I buy?

For most men, 38 to 42 mm is the right range. Under 40 mm suits a smaller wrist or a dress watch, and 42 mm and above suits a larger wrist or a bold diver. Check lug-to-lug length too, since short lugs make a watch wear smaller. A boutique can let you try two sizes side by side.

What is a good men's watch for diving or swimming?

Look for a dive watch with a screw-down crown and at least 200 m of water resistance; ISO 6425 is the standard for true dive watches. We list hundreds of men's dive watches, including the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, the Longines HydroConquest and the Tissot Seastar. Water resistance in metres is shown on each watch.

What does In stock mean on a men's watch?

In stock means the watch is physically in one of our boutiques. Available to Order means we order it in from the brand for you, and you can buy it online like any other watch. Out of stock means the brand no longer sells that reference. Ask our team to confirm availability for any watch.

Is La Maison Monaco an authorized dealer for these watches?

Yes. La Maison Monaco is an authorized Canadian dealer for each men's watch brand it sells, so every watch is new with the full manufacturer warranty and a price in Canadian dollars. Flexiti financing, at 0% on approved credit, is offered on eligible models.
