What counts as fine jewellery?

Fine jewellery is made from precious materials meant to last: solid gold in 10, 14 or 18 karat, natural diamonds and coloured stones, and cultured pearls. Fashion jewellery uses plated base metals and glass. Our pieces are in solid gold (yellow, white, rose and two-tone), diamond, pearl and sterling silver. Roberto Coin, Fope and Tirisi work in 18K gold, the Madani bands are in 10K gold, tungsten and black ceramic, and the Montblanc cufflinks and bracelets are in stainless steel.

Which house should I choose?

Each house owns a speciality. Mikimoto makes cultured pearl necklaces, earrings and bracelets from $1,500 to $12,000. Roberto Coin ($1,470 to $24,850) and Fope ($5,480 to $18,890) work in 18K Italian gold, Roberto Coin with a hidden ruby in each piece and Fope with its flexible woven gold. Tirisi ($2,155 to $13,761) works in 18K gold with diamonds and coloured stones. Monaco Collection ($1,795 to $8,810) combines diamonds and coloured stones. Gucci runs from $165 in sterling silver to $8,625 in gold.

What are the options for rings and bands?

We carry about 220 rings, 100 of them wedding bands. Madani wedding bands run from $675 to $1,800. The other rings, with diamonds or coloured stones, come from Monaco Collection, Tirisi, Roberto Coin and Gucci and run from about $405 to $13,000, with a middle price near $2,000. For a ring you plan to resize or give as a proposal, a boutique specialist can check sizes and stone details with you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between fine and fashion jewellery?

Fine jewellery uses solid gold or platinum, natural stones and cultured pearls, so it can be repaired, resized and passed on. Fashion jewellery uses plated base metals and glass or simulated stones, and is priced to be replaced. Most of our jewellery is fine jewellery in 10K or 18K gold with diamonds and pearls, plus Gucci sterling silver; Madani tungsten and ceramic bands and Montblanc steel pieces are the exceptions.

How much does fine jewellery cost in Canada?

Our pieces range from $165 to $24,850 CAD. Gucci sterling silver starts near $165, wedding bands from $675, Mikimoto pearls from $1,500, Roberto Coin from $1,470 and Fope from $5,480. The middle price of the whole range is about $1,800, and each piece shows its current price.

Do you carry Italian gold jewellery from Roberto Coin and Fope?

Yes. Roberto Coin and Fope are both Italian houses working in 18-karat gold. Roberto Coin sets a small ruby inside each piece as its signature. Fope is known for flexible woven gold bracelets and necklaces and makes its jewellery in Vicenza. Prices run from $1,470 to $24,850 for Roberto Coin and $5,480 to $18,890 for Fope.

Are Mikimoto pearls available in Canada?

Yes. La Maison Monaco is an authorized Mikimoto dealer in Canada and carries about 30 Mikimoto necklaces, earrings and bracelets, with Akoya and South Sea cultured pearls, priced from $1,500 to $12,000 CAD. In a boutique you can compare lustre and colour side by side before you choose.
